Flight of the Conchords
This particular illustration is in all technicality an advertisement. It originally appeared in 2009 as a response to a poster campaign to provide information on the tour of the Flight of the conchords band. the sender of this particular message would be the tour of the band . Likewise, the intended audience would be those who have a ticket to a show somewhere along the dates of the tour, or those who anticipate getting a ticket. The purpose of this particular illustration is to draw attention to the tour and then give information concerning the tour, it’s locations, and it’s dates. The illustrator behind this image is Jason Munn who currently resides in Oakland, California. At the time of this illustration, Jason worked under the psuedonym The Small Stakes, but now as an established illustrator works under his actual name and is a self directed illustrator. This particular illustration, along with most of the work of Jason Munn, was created using the process of screen printing. I chose this particular illustration for it’s asymmetrical balance and the simple use of shapes and lines to create different planes of texture. I enjoy the simplicity of the image but also how well the few elements are organized and presented to create unity in the piece. I also enjoy how the text does not subtract from the image as it is a part of the image itself.
